There are various types of foot joint pain conditions that can be responsible for your aching feetT. Let’s talk about a few of those reasons.
One of the most common conditions and the leading cause of disability all over the world is arthritis. This condition can occur at any age. There are several types of arthritis, including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Post-Traumatic Arthritis.
Let’s take a look at each one and how it may be the cause of your painful foot joints.
Osteoarthritis is due to a damaged cartilage. As we get older, our bodies tend to heal slowly, thus older people are most likely to get this disease. Obesity and family history of osteoarthritis is also one factor.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is usually triggered by an infection or environmental conditions. However, there is no clear cause of this disease. It is not also an inherited disease that, if it were, would pinpoint its cause.
When the body is exposed to a triggering factor, the immune system immediately produces a chemical that harms the joint. Once this happens, rheumatoid arthritis then develops.
Post Traumatic Arthritis is triggered by dislocations, fractures, and anything that damages the joints. Even if an injury is treated well, there is still a high risk of developing post traumatic arthritis. Studies show that after an injury, our body produces hormones that damage the cartilage of our cells that eventually causes us to develop this kind of disease.
Other causes of foot joint pain include gout inflammation, and misalignment of joints and other foot deformities.
Gout usually happens when our body produces an oversupply of uric acid that builds up in our joints. This is typically accompanied by inflammation. Most doctors will prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen to reduce the swelling and discomfort.
Misalignment of joints also causes foot joint pain. This usually happens when injuries occur. One example is the sprained metatarsalphalangeal (MTP) joint or commonly called as sprained big toe or turf toe. This type of sprain is caused by an abrupt bending of the big toe in an upward position. When this happens, the ligaments of the big toe which is connected to the metatarsal bone is damaged. Thus, it is advisable to bring the injured person to the hospital immediately for treatment.
With all the types and causes of foot joint pain, there is no doubt that we should take excellent care of our feet.
Now that we know many of the underlying causes, we can now take steps to pamper and care for our foot joint pain and not to overuse and abuse them.
