Foot Tendon Pain

Foot tendon pain or tendonitis is a usual among hardworking people. When people experience this problem, their foot appears to be inflamed though this is just a secondary reaction. This is mostly caused by putting too much strain of the foot that causes the tendons to break. The first initial symptom is that the outer covering of the tendon is irritated or commonly called paratendonitis. This will eventually lead to the degeneration of the tendon that causes it to become thicker and weaker and eventually losses its strength. When this happens, it may lead to complete rupture of the tendon. People with flat foot types have a greater risk for foot tendon pain.

Now what is the treatment for tendonitis?

  • The first treatment for foot tendon pain is rest. The moment you feel that your feet are aching from too much walking or running, it means that it needs a break. Stop all activities involving sports. Stay off your feet for the entire day or two as much as possible. If you have a wheelchair around the house, then use it to move around. Stay in bed if need be. Find a bench or a chair and rest your foot.
  • Do a cold compress. Putting ice on the affected area sometimes helps in easing the pain. Make sure to have an ice bag handy all the time!
  • Take anti-inflammatory medication. When tendonitis gets too painful then I believe it is time for you go to the drugstore or have somebody purchase anti-inflammatory pills over the counter. However, it is always smart to seek medical advice from your physician before taking any medication. Your doctor may prescribe a much stronger medication for your foot tendon pain.
  • Based on the experiences of many people, orthosis or insoles helps a lot in easing foot tendon pain. This will aid you in your problem by supporting the arch section of your foot. According to some people I know, it is the most effective type of remedy. So have some insoles ready and accessible.

If worst comes to worst, after applying all the remedies I mentioned and your foot still aches. Then there is no possible option other than seeing your physician, and have your foot checked. There are cases of tendonitis where the doctor may require surgery to fix the problem and repair the tendons. Though surgery is a rare case, there have been reports that athletes are back on their feet after six to nine weeks of recuperation. So if your feet are killing you, have it surgically repaired. After all, this might only be the only way for you to be pain free at last.
