Pain In Legs And Feet

There are several causes why people feel some pain in their legs and feet.

This could be a medical condition, physical deformity, improper use of footwear, or a sleep-related disorder. In this article, I will be discussing possible causes of pain in legs and feet.

  • Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) – Restless Leg Syndrome is a sleep disorder characterized by tingling, crawling, burning sensation, or pain in legs and feet. This disorder usually occurs at night or when the legs and feet are at rest. There are no specific causes of this disorder, however it has been linked with pregnancy, smoking, obesity, iron deficiency, anemia, polyneuropathy, and many others.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy – Peripheral Neuropathy is a nerve disorder apart from the spinal cord and the brain. Similar to restless leg syndrome, it is characterized by tingling, numbness, unusual sensations, and pain in both legs and feet. Possible causes of this disorder is associated with diabetes mellitus, shingles, vitamin deficiency specifically B12 and folate, alcohol, cancer, kidney failure, aids, lupus, and among others.
  • Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) – Peripheral vascular disease or PVD is a blood vessel disease located outside the brain and the heart. This condition develops when the arteries that supply blood the different organs of our body become partially of fully blocked. Thus, if there is no enough supply of blood in our lower extremities, it is only typical to feel pain in our legs and feet.
  • Obesity – Our legs and feet are designed to support our whole body. Thus, if we put on too much weight beyond the required body mass index then we are putting more strain on our lower extremities, causing us to feel pain in legs and feet.
  • Improper Use of Footwear – Wearing improper footwear that are too tight or too high may also hurt our legs and feet. This is especially true for women who are fond of wearing high-heeled shoes. It is then important to ensure that we are wearing comfortable shoes will keep us from hurting our lower extremities
  • Physical Deformities – Having a physical deformity on the legs or the feet may also cause pain. Nowadays, you could see an orthotic who will advise you on the proper footwear for such condition.
